While they also include a shared family tree concept, it is not nearly as robust and community driven as WikiTree.Īlso, FamilySearch boasts 1.2 billion ancestors in their shared tree, but unfortunately that also includes hundreds of thousands of duplicate or auto-generated profiles based on early attempts at OCR recognition of records. FamilySearch is first and foremost a repository of records (birth, marriage, death, military, census, etc.). It's perfectly OK to ask for any info if you're looking for fresh leads, but you can help people to focus their efforts & look at the correct sources if you are more specific. When it comes to ease of use and the depth of its tools, FamilySearch is perhaps the best free genealogy website on the web. Be clear & specific about what info you want help finding.Don't make people waste their time by duplicating work.
